Background
- HP has over ten years experience developing innovative CD / DVD technology and drives.
- HP launched its first CD-R drive Fall 1995, the HP SureStore CD-Writer 4020.
- The HP SureStore CD-Writer 4020 was the first half height product targeted at the consumer. At the time, its sub-$1,000 price point was revolutionary. It opened new market opportunities - the home market.
- Since 1995, HP has consistently released new products and invested in developing new ODD technologies. The most recent HP innovation was LightScribe Direct Disk Labeling technology. The HP dvd640 DVD Writer released Spring 2005 was the first LightScribe-enabled drive in the market.
